Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has revealed his admiration for last season's PFA Player of the Year, Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman had a fine campaign last season with Liverpool, helping them to a UEFA Champions League title and finishing runners up in the league as they registered their highest ever points total.
The former Southampton defender has transformed Liverpool since his signing back in 2018, keeping a clean sheet in the last five games.
In an interview with Arsenal's website, Sokratis revealed that defenders deserve more credit, "You've got very good defenders now. What Virgil van Dijk did last year was something very difficult for every defender to do.
"Last year for him was perfect, especially for all the people close to him who helped him a lot. He was very good and it was a good year for him.
"With the way football is going in front, especially when everybody thinks about offensive players and how they can score more. I think the defenders need to start getting more credit."
