Manchester United have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night.
Wolves seemed to have gone in front before Pedro Neto's 10th-minute effort was ruled out by VAR for a handball. However, Juan Mata scored the only goal in the 67th minute to help United advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
United had a brilliant response after Adama Traore troubled the host's defence early in the match. Mata played a delicious ball over the top of Wolves defence. Dan James latched onto it but John Ruddy was out quickly to push it away for a United corner.
That was a nightmare for Fred. The Brazilian drilled an attempted cross-field pass straight into Matic deep in his own half, allowing Wolves to break into the United box, where Neto collected the loose ball to finish beyond De Gea but there was a VAR check.
The goal was ruled out by VAR. Raul Jimenez was adjudged to have handled the ball in the coming together with Harry Maguire which allowed Neto to strike.
A hopeful ball upfield causes problems for Wolves, and Martial found himself in space to slide Mata through on goal. The Spaniard had plenty of time to pick his spot and dunk a delicate finish over the onrushing Ruddy to put the hosts ahead.
Minutes after coming on, Marcus Rashford went down following a strong challenge by Doherty. He was holding his lower back and shaking his head as he walked off the pitch with physios coming to attend to him. Rashford was replaced by Lingard and headed straight towards the tunnel with a member of the United medical staff. He was moving okay but he didn't look happy. A worry for Solskjaer ahead of Sunday's big game at Anfield.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will now be away to either Watford or Tranmere in the next round.
