Mamelodi Sundowns’ maverick coach Pitso Mosimane has likened his club’s league chase to that of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Sundowns currently trail leaders Kaizer Chiefs by nine points and questions of his ability to catch Amakhosi have been rising by the week.

Speaking after losing to rivals Orlando Pirates last Wednesday, Mosimane said he is not losing sleep over the points gap.

"Why should I worry about nine points' difference when people don't worry about nine league titles?" asked Mosimane via Kick Off.

The man known as “Jingles” continued with a jibe at Chiefs’ missing ambitions to pursue the CAF Champions League: "Why should I worry about nine points when people don't worry about going to the Club World Cup, people not worrying about winning the CAF Champions League, and I worry about nine points?"

Mosimane further added that he should perhaps consult Pep Guardiola on trailing Liverpool in the English Premier League.

"That's why I said maybe I should call Pep, because I have his number. I can ask him and say, 'Hey Pep, you are in trouble my friend, it's 15 points [behind Liverpool] what-what, what are you going to do?'

"I mean it's football, we move on. It's not such a big deal, guys. Nine points' difference and so what?

"Do you know how many points' difference was Sundowns to Chiefs last year when we won the league? Did you ask that question? Did you ask Middendorp because he was on the bench?"

"Its bragging rights to make it 10 [league titles for Sundowns] because we want to put the star that no one has. I always tell the players that you might not have it this year but play for it.

"Liverpool has not won it for many years but this year they are going for it. We are in Champions league, top of the group. That's a big one. This one you can always miss it and get it.

"I fought it with Chiefs for two years and lost it once. They got tired. Then came Wits and won once. They got tired. Pirates came twice with Rhulani [Mokwena] two years in a row. They got tired.

The former Bafana Bafana coach, current SA Coach of the Season and 2016 CAF African Coach of the Year, concluded the chat by highlighting Sundowns' World Top 50 ranking...

"Chiefs is back but who is the common dominator in the last seven years? So take a chill pill. Take a break, man. World Cup, Champions League, 46 in the world. I saw Dortmund behind us and let the Buccaneers come out. It's been long and let them come out on the log.

"As Owen [Da Gama] wants the Soweto teams to win the league, maybe we should support Owen. God loves us all,” concluded Mosimane.

Sundowns next travel to SuperSport United on Sunday. A win against the third-placed United could reduce Chiefs’ lead to six points… but only if Amakhosi will lose at Black Leopards on Saturday.
