Rwanda national team captain Haruna Niyonzima has called for serious preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers kicking off later this year.
Rwanda was drawn in Pool E alongside fellow East Africans Uganda and Kenya as well as West Africa's Mali. The drawn was done by Caf in Cairo on Tuesday evening.
Niyonzima was quoted by Rwanda press acknowledging that they face serious opponents in the qualifiers but was confident of grinding out results.
“It is a tough – but playable – group. I am confident if we get serious preparations and players get enough time together, we can beat anyone in the group.”
Rwanda is the lowest-ranked team in the pool and they will face a tall order in trying to top the pool and proceed to the final playoffs.
The qualified to the group stage after rolling over Seychelles 10-0 aggregate score in the preliminary round played in October last year.
The qualifiers kick off in October and will run until late next year. Group winners will proceed to playoffs with the five victorious teams carrying the African flag to Qatar in 2022.
