Paris Saint-Germain are waiting on improved offers from either Chelsea or Atletico Madrid for star striker Edinson Cavani.
The striker is keen on leaving Paris this month, with Atletico said to be his preferred destination.
Chelsea, however, joined the race for his signature, but are unwilling to take him on a permanent deal, as they look for a short term answer to their striking troubles.
The Uruguayan handed in a transfer request in order to push for a move, following lack of enough game time this season.
Paris Saint-Germain wants around £12.5m for the striker, and reportedly knocked the Spanish side's initial offer for the 32-year-old.
Frank Lampard's side is said to be keen on the striker, and are willing to pay a £5m fee, while also shouldering his £360k-a-week wages.
The star's father Luis recently hinted at his son's next destination, saying; “He wants to join another club in Europe. It would please me that he plays here [at Atlético]. Simeone wants him now."
Atletico want to add an experienced striker to their ranks with Joao Felix having failed to live quite to the expectation.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have targeted Cavani to help solve their striking problems, with Tammy Abraham the only dependable marksman at the club.
