Arsenal handed major fitness boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

Ahead of their FA Cup Fourth Round clash against Bournemouth, Arsenal are confident of having Sokratis Papastathopoulos back for the tie.

The Greece international missed the 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with an illness as Shkodran Mustafi replaced him in the lineup.

Sokratis' return will be a timely boost for Arsenal as David Luiz was sent off against Chelsea and has been slapped with a three-game suspension which leaves Arteta short of options at center-back.

After Luiz was sent off, Granit Xhaka filled in alongside Shkodran Mustafi and the Swiss may have to be used as an emergency option against Bournemouth should Sokratis fail to recover in time.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are ‘confident’ the 31-year-old will have fully recovered from his bug in time to feature versus the Cherries.

Rob Holding came on as a second-half substitute against Chelsea on Tuesday night but Arteta has been reluctant to overuse the Englishman after only coming back from a serious knee injury.
