Mbwana Samatta warned ahead of his Aston Villa debut

Tanzania national team captain Mbwana Samatta that he won’t have it easy in the toughest league in the world by former Aston Villa defender Allan Hutton.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton urged Dean Smith to be patient with Samatta having joined Villa at the start of this week from Belgian champions Genk for a fee of around £8.5m.

“He has scored a lot of goals but he is unproven in the Premier League. It is the toughest league in the world.

“I imagine they are looking at another because you cannot pin your hopes on somebody that is unproven in the league. He could come in and hit the ground running so, we will have to wait and see. His track record is good so hopefully, he can do the same for Villa,” Hutton said.

Samatta who trained with his teammates for the first time on Friday scored 42 goals in the last season and a half for Genk, and Villa is hoping he can provide a similar spark in their battle against the drop.

The former Simba SC and TP Mazembe striker could make his debut against Leicester City in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
