Sensational Zanaco has boosted their chances of qualifying to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-1 win over DC Motema Pembe at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday.
The visitors broke the deadlock just seven minutes into the match as Bayindula Nkongo sprinted into the box from the left wing before slotting past Toaster Nsabata, 1-0.
The bankers quickly reorganized and started pushing for an equalizer. They created a lot of chances but they were very wasteful in front of goals with Enerst Mbewe, Chitiya Mususu, and Roger Kola all failing to utilize their chances.
Motema Pembe thought they would grind out a result as they managed to defend their lead until the 82nd minute, Kelvin Owusu pounced on a poor headed clearance following a long throw from Belchance Makiese and thumped the ball into the roof of the net to level matters, 1-1.
There was drama in the dying minutes of the match as Souleymanou Moussa sneaked in the winner but his shot was cleared just after it crossed the line.
Luckily for the Bankers, the referee was close to the action and gave Zanaco the goal but after the match, Motema Pembe protested and remained on the pitch for an extra 30 minutes before finally walking off.
