Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has joined Serie A side Sampdoria on a loan deal until the end of the season.
A statement on Sampdoria website noted: “President Massimo Ferrero and UC Sampdoria announce that they have temporarily acquired the rights to the sports performance of the football player Maya Yoshida (born in Nagasaki, Japan, on August 24, 1988) from Southampton FC.
“The defender signed an economic contract until June 30, 2020.”
Yoshida will be joining former Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini at a club who is currently placed 16th in the Serie A table.
The Japan international has been at Southampton for the past seven-and-a-half seasons where he has scored nine goals in his 194 appearances.
