Defending champions Esperance, whose 26-match unbeaten run was broken on Saturday by Raja, have won this trophy four times with Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca lifting it three times.
The other Moroccan giant in the last eight Wydad Casablanca have won it twice while Tunisia's Etoile Du Sahel andSouth Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns have lifted the big trophy once each.
Interestingly six of the eight teams are from North Africa with TP Mazembe and Sundowns breaking the Arab stranglehold on the competition.
The draw for the quarterfinal pairings will be done on February 5 in Cairo.
