Jose Mourinho’s number of Laliga wins with Real Madrid was passed by Zinedine Zidane in their Sunday win over Osasuna.
The victory was Zidane’s 88th in La Liga, taking him above Mourinho and into third all-time for the most wins in the Spanish top flight as Madrid boss; the convincing win putting Madrid at the top of the Laliga table.
In the game, Osasuna gave Madrid an early scare when It Unai Garcia opened the scoring proceedings but goals from Isco, Sergio Ramos, Lucas Vazquez and Luka Jovic sealed the deal in the second half.
Zidane’s record is only bettered by Only Miguel Munoz, who managed Madrid for 14 years between 1960 and 1974, and Vicente del Bosque who have won more league games as a manager at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Zidane’s latest record at Madrid will add to that of winning three successive Champions League titles in his first stint with the club this coming despite the short period he has been with the team compared to the other managers.
His second spell at Madrid started in a struggling fashion but they have improved gradually with their surge helped by the struggled currently being faced by FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Madrid is now three points clear at the top of La Liga table and takes on Celta Vigo and Levante in their next two league games before welcoming Manchester City at the Bernabeu in the Champions League.
