Rayon Sports captain Eric Rutanga on Tuesday insisted that club is on course for a domestic double as it launches onslaught for the Rwanda Premier League and Peace Cup.
With 11 matches to go, Rayon are second on the league table with 41 points four adrift of leaders APR. In the Peace Cup, Rayon will play Intare on Wednesday in the return leg. They won the first leg 4-0.
“It is still too early to be desperate in the title race. We are confident about our chances, but most importantly about our willpower to fight till the very end of the season,” Rutanga told Rwanda's New Times.
Rutanga acknowledged that APR are favourites for the league but says that they're determined to attack all fronts to clinch this season's title.
“I think we are still right in for a double this season. We will not distract ourselves with title talks, but we know we have got what it takes to win both titles. We (players) – and coaches – are just focusing on one match at a time,” left-back Rutanga further added.
Rayon overcame Bugesera 1-0 at Bugesera Stadium on Sunday, thanks to the lone strike from striker Drissa Dagnogo early in the second half. They will need to maintain the same momentum and clinical precision in the remaining league matches.
