Ernesto Valverde has tipped Real Madrid to beat his former club Barcelona to the LaLiga title this season.
Barcelona, who have won eight of the last 11 league trophies have not been impressive this season under new boss Quique Setién. Madrid have been impressive this season having lost a single match so far in 23 LaLiga matches while the Catalans have suffered four defeats in the process.
When asked who is going to win the league this season, Valverde said, "Madrid are strong and very focused on LaLiga."
Speaking at the during the Bilbao International Football Summit, the Spaniard admitted he has not watched much football since he was sacked by the Spanish giants following a 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in Supercopa de España semi-finals.
"I haven’t seen much football in these past weeks, the only match I’ve seen in full was Athletic Club and Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. I have tried to put a little distance between myself and football. When you are at a club you move at 200 miles per hour, then all of a sudden you stop moving, it’s always hard to see the team you have coached recently when you’re trying to build distance."
Zinedine Zidane's men are currently on top of the table with 52 points, 3 above second-placed Barcelona.
