Ten-man Leicester City walked out of the Molineux with a point after holding hosts Wolves to a goalless draw in an English Premier League clash staged on Friday 14 February.
A win for Leicester would lift them to second; victory for Wolves would move them from ninth to sixth and with the news that Manchester City had been banned from UEFA competitions, the stage was set for a thrilling evening encounter.
The visitors started in brilliant fashion with Tieleman deflected drive in the ninth minute forcing keeper Rui Patricio to a smart save.
But as Leicester were dominating, they were reminded that they needed to cover at the back when in the 11th-minute keeper Schmeichel made a fine save from Diogo Jota! The chance came after a scintillating sprint down the right by Pedro Neto. He was tackled by Soyuncu in the area but picked up the loose ball and slid an angled pass to Diogo Jota, whose crisp low shot was kicked behind by the stretching Schmeichel.
Wolves were growing in the game and after missing glorious chances in quick succession, they thought they had taken the lead in the 44th minute. It came from a short corner on the right. A very deep cross was headed back across goal by Doherty, and Boly got in front of Tielemans to head past Schmeichel from four yards. When the VAR review was called into action, the goal was overruled as Jota’s heels were adjudged to have been in an offside position.
Just as it was in the first half, Leicester was more incisive in the second half. They thought they had won a penalty on the hour mark when Maddison looked to have been brought down by Saiss in the box but Mike Dean was going to have none of it; a decision that was backed by the VAR team.
Leicester was to be reduced to ten men when Choudhury, booked earlier in the half, slipped over deliberately to bring down Dendoncker in his bid to stop a Wolves break.
The home side tried to swing the one-man advantage in their favor with striker Jimenez missing a glorious chance at the death with defender Soyuncu forced to blocking another Jimenez' effort late on as Leicester hanged on to claim a vital one point.
