Jurgen Klopp's reaction following Manchester City's UEFA ban

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was shocked by the news that Manchester City had been banned from UEFA competitions for two seasons.

The Premier League defending champions were handed the ban on Friday evening after they were found guilty of breaching FFP rules.

The club has indicated they will be appealing the decision by UEFA's governing body, and the German coach, whose side are the UEFA Champions League champions feels sorry for the Spaniard and his club.

"It was a shock when I heard it,” said Klopp.

“I have no idea how these things work - what I can say is Manchester City under Pep Guardiola play sensational football. I've always admired what they do.

"In this moment I imagine it's very hard for them.

"To be honest I feel for Pep and the players because, wow, they did, for sure, nothing wrong. They just played football and sensational football.

"Pep helped the league to improve football."

In a statement, the club indicated they will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but until then, the decision stands that they will only participate in domestic football only for the next two seasons.
