Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has hit out at striker Anthony Martial, despite scoring in their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Monday night.
The Red Devils completed a double over the London side, having won 4-0 in the reverse fixture back in August 2019.
The win also saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men boost their chances of a top-four finish, slashing the gap between them and Frank Lampard's side to just three points.
The Frenchman opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half before captain Harry Maguire sealed the win with a second-half header.
Scholes has however questioned Martial's suitability in leading the lines for the Red Devils, especially with Marcus Rashford out injured.
"With Anthony Martial, it’s interesting, I don’t know if he’s a wide player, I don’t know if he’s a center forward," Scholes said after the Monday night clash.
"Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] clearly thinks there’s a center forward in there and he’s telling him to get in the box as often as he can.
"He laboured at times to get in the box, he didn’t really bust a gut. You shouldn’t need to [tell a striker to get into the penalty box], but if you’re Anthony Martial he looks like he needs telling,"
"He looks like he doesn’t take that much information in. Some players are like that, sometimes you tell them once and they’ll do it all the time," he added.
Martial has nine goals for United this season in 20 Premier League appearances but continues to divide opinion among the club's fans.
With Rashford still out injured, the 24-year-old looks certain to continue playing through the middle, even though the arrival of Odion Ighalo could change things going forward.
