Loris Karius to seal Liverpool return as Besiktas snub chance of triggering clause

Goalkeeper Loris Karius will return to Liverpool in the summer after Besiktas failed to trigger a clause that would make the loan deal a permanent one.

According to the Athletic, Besiktas have the option of turning Karius' loan into a permanent deal this summer for just £7.25million but they are not planning to trigger the clause.

Besiktas paid £2.25m for an initial two-year loan of Karius with an obligation to buy him for an additional £7.25m if he met certain performance targets; targets the Turkish giants feel have not been met.

The move means that Karius will be returning to Anfield just two years after his horror mistake in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old has made 26 appearances for Besiktas this season across the Turkish League and Europa League but has made high-profile errors - including against Slovan Bratislav in the latter competition in September.

The Athletic added that Karius' return to Liverpool could be brief since Klopp and his team doesn’t have a place for him in the team with Alisson Becker the undisputed first choice keeper.

The current league leaders are said to be comfortable too with the presence of Adrian who has been a capable understudy in the time that Alisson had an injury.
