Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has given an insight into his squad selection on Saturday afternoon against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues beat Jose Mourinho's side with a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge to complete a league double following a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture, with Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso scoring the all-important goals.
Lampard made a couple of changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Monday night, with Alonso, Barkley and Giroud's inclusion the most notable.
He also changed his tactics, playing in a 3-5-3 formation, with Alonso and Reece James playing as wing-backs.
He then included the Frenchman in his starting lineup for the first time, with the returning Tammy Abraham and Mitchy Batshuayi on the bench.
"When Oli is playing, you have to play to his strengths. You have to put balls into the box, you have to use him to bring people into the game and if we have to adapt slightly for games like that, that’s just the test that me and the players are under," Lampard said.
He added: "The system only works if the players play the way they play. The system only works if Ross and Mason are so mobile around Oli up front and give you a threat behind as well. The system only works if the back three today don’t sit off and allow people to turn on the ball because they’re playing with two false strikers.
"We work on it but it’s the players who enforce it and they make the system work,"
It was a welcoming win for the Blues, who have registered mixed results in recent weeks to jeopardize their chances of finishing in the top-four bracket,
The win saw them move four points clear of Mourinho's Spurs and six ahead of Manchester United, who play Watford on Sunday.
