Stars Abroad: Goals for Olunga and Makwatta as Ouma-Johanna faceoff end in draw

Michel Olunga began his league season with Kashiwa Reysol from where he left after bagging a brace in their 4-2 win over Sapporo on Saturday.

Kashiwa who are returning to the Japanese top flight after being in the second tire last season took the lead through Esaka after being put through by Olunga with the duo combining again for Olunga’s goal in the 20th minute.

Esaka grabbed a third in the 58th minute with the assist coming from Cristiano with Olunga closing the scoring proceedings in the 65th minute. The Kenyan international played in the entire game and will hope for the same outing when they take on Bellmare in the J-League Cup on Wednesday 26 February.

In Sweden, it was a meeting between two Kenyans when Eric Ouma’s AIK battled with Eric Johanna’s Jonkopings Sodra in the Svenska Cup; a game that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Both Ouma and Johanna completed the full minutes with the former getting a yellow card for his troubles in the 68th minute.

Still, in Sweden, defender Joseph Okumu managed the full minutes when IF Elfsborg emerged 3-0 winners over Brage in the Svenska Cup.

In Zambia, John Mark Makwatta was once again in the scoresheet as Zesco United fell 2-1 to Napsa Stars in the Zambian Super League. The game also saw the return of David Owino in the starting team with Ian Otieno being the other player to complete the full minutes. There was no place for Jesse Were though.

In Spain, it was another full minutes for Athuman Gonzalez when Las Palmas II went down by a solitary goal to Celta de Vigo II on Sunday.

In Belgium, Johanna Omollo was introduced in the 90th minute as Cercle Brugge resurgence continued after recording a 1-0 win over hosts Royal Mouscron in the Belgian First Division.

The win was Brugge’s third on the trot and it enabled them to rise from the foot of the log to 15th as the race to fight relegation intensifies.
