KCCA's Charles Lukwago looks set to miss the 2020 African Nations Championships after picking up an injury during their 1-1 draw with Express on Saturday.
Lukwago has been Johnny McKinstry's first-choice shot-stopper during the CHAN 2020 qualifiers and he was a sure pick for the tournament that runs from April 4 to 25 in Cameroon.
McKinstry will be forced to turn his attention to possible replacements from the local league. Notable mentions include Joel Mutakubwa (Kyetume FC) and Said Keni (SC Villa). Mutakubwa was Lukwago’s deputy at the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, while Keni was part of the squad at the 2018 CHAN finals in Morocco.
Others who have had outstanding performances during the season and have raised up their hands for consideration include Nafian Alionzi (URA FC), Derrick Emukule (Wakiso Giants), Hannington Ssebwalunyo (Maroons FC), Derrick Ochan (Vipers SC) Ali Kimera (Busoga United) as well as Express' Mathias Muwaga.
McKinstry is expected to name his provisional squad for the tournament in the coming days.
