BREAKING: Tottenham ace Alli hit with FA charge

Tottenham winger Dele Alli has been hit with an FA charge following a social media post, joking about the deadly coronavirus.

Alli posted a video to his Snapchat account as he appeared to joke about the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, mocking an Asian man. He later deleted the post and issued a public apology but the FA had been urged to take action by Piara Powar, executive director of the Football Against Racism in Europe network.

The 23-year-old issued two public apologies and stressed that it was a private post on Snapchat which only his friends could see but someone had leaked to the public.

"Dele Alli has been charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a social media post," a statement from the FA read.

"It is alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s post breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute. It is further alleged that the post constitutes an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality.

"He has until Thursday 5 March 2020 to provide a response."
