Tanzania returned to haunt Uganda in women football after a 2-1 win in the first leg of the second round of the 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Aisha Masaka bagged a brace to help the hosts secure a slim advantage ahead of the return leg in Kampala in a fortnight. Fauzia Najjemba had put the visitors into an early lead before Masaka ensured that the Tanzanian girls were victorious in the closely contested encounter.
The two teams will meet in the return leg on 14th March 2020 in Kampala with the winner on aggregate taking on either Cameroon or Sao Tome and Principe.
In other matches, Zambia beat South Africa 2-0 while Botswana were stopped 1-0 at home by Morocco. Sao Tome and Principe were thrashed 4-0 at home by Cameroon as Ghana were 2-0 victors over Liberia in Monrovia.
The 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s Cup will be hosted in India in November.
