'What a footballer!' - Harry Redknapp hails Chelsea youngster

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is the latest to pour praises on Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour following impressive displays in the Blues' midfield.

The young Scotland impressed for the London side last week with two man-of-the-match displays, first against Liverpool in the FA Cup, before dominating Everton in the Premier League.

The 18-year-old has been receiving massive reviews from fans, managers and other players, and now the 73-year-old has joined the bandwagon.

“What about the little boy Billy Gilmour? What a footballer he looks,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“A throwback to the old days of a little midfielder who can play and is too clever for anyone to get near him to kick him. He just sees everything before the ball comes, he knows where his next pass is.

“I love watching him play and Chelsea have some amazing young players," he added.

Gilmour offered cover when Chelsea were desperate following injuries to key first-team midfielders, but with the league suspended now and the players expected back once it resumes, it will be interesting to see how manager Frank Lampard handles him.

The Englishman has given a number of young players a lot of game-time this season, partially due to the club's ban from signing new players.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Fikayo Tomori have all broken onto the scene this campaign, with Gilmour becoming the latest.
