Algerian international Haris Belkebla sets unique record in Ligue 1

Brest midfielder Haris Belkebla is on course of setting a unique record in the French top division, Ligue 1.

Belkebla has been in imperious form with the club this season and has put in an incredibly outstanding performance that has seen him record some of the highest distance covered in a single match.

On December 6, he covered an astonishing 16.3 kilometres against Lille at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium. Belkebla's work rate was not enough to help Brest win that match.

The 26-year-old bosses this statistics as he occupies the first three places on the highest distance covered in Ligue 1 this season. The 13.4 kilometres covered against Olympique Lyonnais is the league's second while his 13.3 kilometres against Paris Saint-Germain is the third-highest distance covered in the league.

Belkebea spoke of his disappointment when he missed out on Djamel Belmadi's final squad that took part in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Algeria beat Senegal 1-0 to lift the trophy.

His work rate will probably convince Belmadi to give him another chance in the Desert Foxes squad that set to take on Zimbabwe in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

Born in La Courneuve, Belkebla began his career in the youth ranks of Boulogne before joining Valenciennes in 2012. In 2014, he joined Tours, signing an amateur contract with the club. He made his Ligue 2 debut at 8 August 2014 against Troyes AC in a 1–0 away loss. In summer 2018, he moved to Brest.
