Three players Arteta should build Arsenal team around

Mikel Arteta should build his Arsenal side around the likes of Bukayo Saka, Joe Willock, and Gabriel Martinelli, according to former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

Arteta has given the youths a chance to prove their worth at the Emirates since taking over from Unai Emery, vowing to name a starting XI based on performances in training rather than going for big names. Notably, striker Alexander Lacazette has been dropped in favor of youngster Eddie Nketiah and the club has been better since Emery left.

Arsenal could lose captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer as the striker is yet to sign a new contract at the Emirates. This could leave the north London club with plenty of work to do but Rio believes Arteta has set the right values in motion at the club.

"Really you’re meant to be looking at centre-halves, they should’ve been looking there for the last 10 years and they haven’t got it right," he said on Instagram Live.

"Arsenal is a fantastic football club, what a club, a massive club. I think they’ve got to get it right in other areas of the pitch. Keep bringing in these [players], [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Bukayo] Saka, [Joe] Willock, all these boys."

"I love seeing that but they’ve got to get stability and strength in there, some people who will do good for the club, because it hasn’t worked with the likes of Sokratis and Mustafi, I don’t think they haven’t been able to get it right, and Chambers before that."

The Gunners have been linked with Real Madrid's forward Luka Jovic, who is seen as a potential replacement for Aubameyang.
