🇳🇬🔴 Ighalo mentions Okocha, Kanu among Cole & Yorke as his childhood idols

Odion Ighalo was one of those kids who had heroes both in the local scene as well as the European stage.

With Ighalo having already revealed being a Manchester United fan in the past - including a viral image of him wearing the Red Devils jersey as a teenager - the 30-year-old striker has now added that the club’s legendary striking duo of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke inspired him a great deal.

“Well, I had a lot of football heroes. When I started supporting Man United, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were my heroes growing up,” Ighalo said via the Man United website.

The Lagos-born player also admired Super Eagles legends like Austin Okocha and Nwanku Kanu who both played in the Premier League for Bolton Wanderers and Arsenal respectively.

“And some Nigerian players as well like Jay-Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu. They are great players, they were my heroes growing up and I watched them on TV. It is a great privilege for me to play at Man United, where great players like Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole have played.

The former Watford goalscorer concluded the chat by having to describe just what type of player character he views himself as.

“Well, many people would say he is a gentle guy but inside he is a beast. I am a fighter, I never give up, I go for what I believe I can achieve and I give my best, 100 percent, no matter the outcome of the game, win or lose, I always give 100 percent from the beginning,” he added.
