πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ On-loan Steven Mukwala bags Golden Boot as his club Maroons FC is axed from UPL

On Wednesday 20th, the Uganda Premier League 2019/20 season was canceled with league leaders Vipers being crowned the champions.

UPL was suspended mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic and the FUFA declaring the standings before suspension final. Before the League was halted, Vipers were on top of the table with 54 points after 24 matches, four points ahead of second-placed KCCA.

Steven Desse Mukwala was crowned the top scorer of the league after netting 13 goals in 23 appearances for Maroons. Mukwala, who is on loan from champions Vipers was outstanding in the abbreviated league but could not help his side Maroons from surviving relegation.

The 20-year-old beat Vipers' Fahad Bayo and Police FC's Ben Ocen, who had scored 12 goals. Mukwala sent a congratulatory message to his parent club Vipers after winning the league while commiserating with Maroons FC.

"Thanks to all our fans for the support this season, let’s accept the verdict hope Maroons will bounce back. On my side, it’s a dream come true to be the League top scorer. Congratulations to my mother club Vipers SC for the Championship," he said.

Tooro United and Proline FC were the other two teams that were relegated to the second division, the FUFA Big League.
