The 2021 African Cup of Nations that was set for Cameroon in January is set to be postponed due to the effects of the coronavirus.
According to reports from RMC Sports, the Confederation of African Football is expected to move the competition to 2022 with an announcement on the same expected to be announced soon.
The tabloid claims that a source from CAF told them that "there is almost no chance of seeing the CAN being played in January in Cameroon".
"Today the trend is to postpone the tournament to January 2022. Playing the tournament in the summer of 2022 can’t be excluded too because the World Cup will take place in November of 2022 but we must study the medical process so as not to destabilize African teams at the World Cup,” the source said.
There are still four rounds left in the qualification process of the competition with this having been disrupted by the football break brought about by corona.
The competition was scheduled between January 9 and February 6, 2021, and just as they did in 2017 when it changed her calendar to fit that of FIFA, CAF is expected to make a decision so as to give teams a proper time to prepare for the tournament.
