Derby County defender Andre Wisdom is stable in hospital after being stabbed and robbed during a street attack on Saturday.
Reports from the UK indicates that the former Liverpool FC man is expected to make a full recovery and could leave the hospital within the next two days.
In a statement, Derby said of the incident: “Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery. He sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital. The club will focus its efforts on supporting Andre and his family.”
The incident means that the player won’t be available for selection when his team takes on Preston North End at Deepdale on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old came through the ranks of Liverpool academy making 14 appearances for the first team. After loan spells with Norwich City, West Brom and Red Bull Salzburg, he was to sign permanently for Derby in 2017.
He has been a key member of the Derby team that is just three points off the play-off places in the Championship having made over 100 appearances for the club.
