Why Eden Hazard was dropped from the squad set to face Getafe tonight

Eden Hazard will not be part of the Real Madrid team that will face Getafe on Thursday night in a LaLiga clash.

The Belgian, who has endured an injury-filled campaign, was dropped from the side that will face the sixth-placed side at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the match, coach Zinedine Zidane revealed his decision is meant to protect the 29-year-old as he is always the target from opponents.

"He's very good and the opponents know it," Zidane said in response to the question on fouls against the former Chelsea star.

"But there's no intention of hurting any player.

"We have to be calm with Eden. He's been off the pitch for a long time and you have to go easy on him.

"He'll be fine in a little while."

Madrid will be hoping to take advantage of Barcelona's recent slip in the race for the LaLiga title following a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Los Blancos lead the standings on 71 points, one above their bitter rivals ahead of tonight's clash.

A win will see them extend their lead at the top to four points with five matches to go.
