Laliga side Deportivo Alaves have appointed former Sevilla and Espanyol manager Pablo Machin as their new head coach on a one-year deal.
In a statement, the club said: “Deportivo Alavés already has a new coach for the centenary. This is Pablo Machín, who will be linked to the institution of Paseo de Cervantes for a season.”
The 45-year-old had been named head coach of Chinese Super League side Qingdao Huanghai in July but was unable to travel to China to take up the job after one of his relatives tested positive for COVID-19.
Machín started his career in the lower categories with CD Numancia in the 2011/12 season before moving to Girona in March 2014 where he helped them to Laliga promotion.
His last managerial stint was at Espanyol, where he was sacked last December with the team at the bottom of the La Liga standings.
Machin comes in to replace Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz who had taken charge of Alaves at the back end of the 2019-20 season and guided them to a 16th-place finish despite managing just one win in four games.
