Brazilian winger Willian will wear the 12 jersey at Arsenal after inking a three-year deal with the North London club on Friday.
The 32-year-old who joins from London rivals Chelsea will follow in the footsteps of club legend Thierry Henry who wore the same number after rejoining the club from New York Red Bulls in 2012.
The number 12 jersey at Arsenal was most recently worn by Stephan Lichtsteiner and Olivier Giroud.
The player had the jersey number 10 at his previous club but the number isn’t vacant as it is currently occupied by midfielder Mesut Ozil whose future at the club is yet to be decided.
Ozil has one year left in his contract and earlier this week came out guns blazing saying that he will only leave the club under his own terms and won’t be pushed out by anyone.
Willian has been praised by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta who said: "I believe he’s a player that can really make a difference for us," Arteta told the Arsenal website.
"We have been monitoring him for the past few months, we had a clear intention to strengthen in the attacking midfielder and the winger positions [and] he is a player that gives us a lot of versatility, he can play in three or four different positions."
