❌ Arsenal turn down Monaco approach for youngster Smith Rowe

Monaco's approached for Emile Smith Rowe has been turned down by Arsenal with the head coach Mikel Arteta keen to work with the midfielder next season.

Smith Rowe, who has been with the Arsenal's academy for almost a decade made his first-team debut for the north London club in 2018. The midfielder could not feature regularly in the first team wand was loaned out to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig during the 2018/19season and Championship club Huddersfield Town last term.

The 20-year-old has attracted interests from a number of clubs including Monaco, with their sporting director Paul Mitchel reportedly a huge admirer of the attacking midfielder. Reports from Daily Mail report that Monaco contacted Arsenal about a possible transfer deal for Rowe but was quickly turned down. The Gunners are reluctant to sell Rowe and they could loan him out ahead of the new season with Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Leeds keeping tabs on him.

"He’s a player with very specific qualities to play in those pockets in that position as an attacking midfielder,’ Arteta said of Smith Rowe," Arteta said last month.

"I am excited to work with him. I have been talking with him and I have followed him during his spell on loan. I think he’s someone who can be pretty impressive. I’m pleased by what I’ve seen from him."

"He needed that exposure and he looks more mature now. I think he will be in a much better place when he comes back in pre-season. The young players want to be important, they want to take the important numbers, and I like that. It’s a good step, and they can be important in the future, but it’s up to them to decide that."
