Leicester City set to hand Jamie Vardy a new deal

English Premier League side Leicester City is set to hand striker Jamie Vardy a new deal this week.

According to The Telegraph, the reigning Golden Boot winner will sign a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until 2023.

An official statement on the same is expected on Wednesday with the player having been a cog in the team since joining from Fleetwood Town in a £1m deal in 2012.

The Englishman has made 310 appearances for Leicester City, scoring 130 goals while helping guide the team to the 2013-14 Championship and their historic 2015-16 Premier League title.

On an individual level, the 33-year-old has won the Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year in 2016.

Before announcing his retirement from international football, Vardy earned 26 caps for England, scoring seven goals and was part of the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup campaigns.

The new deal comes just days after midfielder James Maddison signed a new four-year deal at the club while 19-year-old left-back Luke Thomas signed a new long-term deal on Tuesday.
