Robert Lewandowski has been voted as ‘Footballer of the Year’ in Germany, a week after completing a treble.
The Polish striker received 276 votes, beating teammates Thomas Muller (54) and Joshua Kimmich (49) in the poll carried out by sports magazine kicker among sports journalists.
The striker enjoyed a hugely impressive 2019/20 season, in which he won the Champions League, Bundesliga amd tje DFB Cup.
He was also the top scorer in the three competitions, netting 55 times in all the three in what was his best season ever.
“Even more so because as the expectations of me get higher, I try to surpass them every year,” Lewandowski told kicker.
“I’ve worked hard for my achievements and those of the whole team, who have played brilliantly both domestically and in Europe.”
The striker was a clear favourite for this year's Ballon d'Or, but missed out as the France Football canceled it due to the 'unfair grounds' occassioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
