Key predictor match facts
Fulham vs Arsenal
Fulham is back in the big time after their dramatic Playoff Final win against Brentford. Their first task is a London derby against Arsenal. The last two meetings between these two attack-minded sides produced 11 goals and the Gunners will be confident of another win after lifting their 14th FA Cup and defeating Liverpool in the Community Shield. Arsenal hammered Fulham 5-1 in the corresponding fixture in 2018-19. For the record, Fulham has lost each of their last five Premier League matches against Arsenal, conceding nine goals in their last two defeats against the Gunners.
Crystal Palace vs Southampton
Crystal Palace has won just three of their 22 Premier League matches against Southampton (D6 L13) while Southampton has won on their last three visits to Selhurst Park in the Premier League. In addition to that, The Saints have kept clean sheets in all three of those wins.
Liverpool vs Leeds
Champions Liverpool faces promoted Leeds United on day one of the new Premier League campaign. The Championship winners under Marcelo Bielsa won six consecutive matches as they charged their way towards automatic promotion, scoring 21 goals in their last eight matches. The hosts should win but there's every reason to expect an entertaining encounter.
West Ham vs Newcastle
Newcastle has lost their first league match of the season in six of the last seven campaigns, drawing the other. Their last opening day win was back in 2012-13 when they beat Spurs at St. James’ Park. They've failed to score in five of those defeats too.
West Brom vs Leicester
Three of West Brom's home matches at the back-end of the Championship were draws but they did enough, in the end, to be promoted automatically to the Premier League. Leicester's form fell off towards the end of 2019-20 with just two points collected from a possible 15 in the final five games. The Baggies will be confident they can get something from their season opener at home. That being said, the Foxes have won their last four EPL trips to this venue – their joint-best away head to head streak against any side in this competition.
Spurs vs Everton
Spurs will be eager to improve on what was a disappointing 2019-20 campaign in which they finished sixth and they must also endure an elongated new schedule with Europa League qualifiers in the pipeline. They did end the season at home strongly though, with four consecutive EPL wins while Everton only picked up five points from a possible 15 in their run-in. Three of the last four head to heads have seen goals at both ends and two of the last three meetings have been drawn, so that's our bet on opening day.
