A new-look Everton side got off to a perfect start in the English Premier League after an impressive 1-0 win away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home the all-important goal in the 55th minute as they recorded a rare win in London in a hugely entertaining clash.
Both teams traded early blows, but it was the visitors who showed more hunger as they pressed their opponents minute after minute.
New signings Abdoulaye Doucouré, James Rodriguez, and Allan starred for the Toffees and were constant threats for Jose Mourinho's side, largely controlling the midfield.
They should have taken the lead in the 16th minute after Davies played a slack pass inside only for Richarlison to pounce, before beating both Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris, but could not find the target from a tight angle.
Fucking hell Richarlison is fast, look how far away from the ball he was pic.twitter.com/HM5sePGEFE— Fuck Lindelof (@bissakawrld) September 13, 2020
Tottenham came close to levelling the scores on the 43rd minute after Harry Kane beautifully lofted a pass over the defence to find Matt Doherty in space inside the box, but his hard shot was saved by Jordan Pickford as the match went into the break tied at 0-0.
In the second period, the visitors picked from where they left and were rewarded 10 minutes into the half after Lucas Digne delivered a sumptuous freekick into the box for Calvert-Lewin to score with a clinical header.
The Toffees then settled and kept Spurs at bay for the remaining minutes, and even came close to doubling their lead on a number of occasions.
In the end, they held on to win, their first victory away at a "top six" side in 40 games since December 2013 against David Moyes' Manchester United.
They next host promoted side West Bromwich Albion before travelling to take on Crystal Palace.
