Samuel Umtiti’s brother and agent Yannick Umtiti have revealed that the player does not want to leave FC Barcelona in the summer but might be open to options.
There have been reports that the French defender isn’t in the plans of new manager Ronald Koeman but according to Yannick, despite the player not interested in a move, they might be forced to look for alternatives due to the club’s desire.
“Samuel does not want to leave Barca this summer. However, bearing in mind the club’s desire for changes, alternatives may need to be studied which suits the player’s goals. The Lyon rumour is good, but unfortunately, it’s very unlikely to happen.” Yannick told foot01.com.
No team is expected to afford the fee Barca will demand for Umtiti but there have been rumours linking him to Lyon but Lyon boss Rudi Garcia while admitting that he would love to have Umtiti back to Lyon, he added that “he does not see the signing possible”.
Barca is said to be worried by the player’s constant injuries with the Wolrd Cup winner having only managed 18 matches for Barça last season; Barca expected to rely on Clement Lenglet who played a total of 40 games in all competitions.
Umtiti has a contract with FC Barcelona until June 2023 but with Euros coming up next year, the player is keen on getting more playing time.
