When Mohammed Salah signed for Liverpool in 2017, not many people gave him a chance going by is outing at Chelsea.
The player has gone to prove his doubters wrong and opened the 2020/21 season with a hat trick against Leeds United; the game seeing the Egyptian scoring for the fourth successive time on the Premier League’s opening day.
He is once again being tipped for the golden boot but who are the five players who have the most goal involvements since Salah’s Liverpool debut in 2017?
- Harry Kane (73 goal involvements)
There is a feeling the England captain should have had more involvement were it not for injury problems.
During the period since Salah made his debut, Kane has scored 65 leagues goals-the second-highest tally of any player in the division-in addition to contributing a further eight assists. He remains a key figure under Jose Mourinho but there is a fear among some pundits that his coach’s tactics might not see him score many goals as he should be.
- Jamie Vardy (74 goal involvements)
Just as Salah, Vardy scored two goals in the opening week of the Premier League season after leading his side to a 3-0 win over West Brom.
The 33-years-old double at the Hawthorns saw his tally rise to 74 goal involvements since the 2017/18 season, scoring 63 times and providing 11 assists for his teammates. He is the reigning golden boot champion.

Currently out with an injury, Aguero has been one of the best foreign imports in the Premier League. He is City’s record goalscorer and has scored an incredible 58 league goals and 17 assists in just 71 league start over the past three seasons; the Argentine being the highest scoring non-English player in the history of the league.
- Raheem Sterling (77 goals involvements)
Raheem Sterling has been a totally different player under Pep Guardiola and only one Premier League player has a better record that the 25-year-old’s 77 goal involvements over the past three seasons.
In the past season with City, the player had a career-best of 31 goals in all competitions. Since the 2017/18 season, Sterling has scored 55 goals and provided 22 assists.
- Mohamed Salah (104 goal involvements)
The Egyptian has been on a league of its own since returning to English football three years ago. In his debut season with The Reds, Salah scored 32 goals to win the golden boot.
His record stands at 76 goals in just 109 appearances for the club since making his debut against Watford in 2017; during this time, the player has provided 28 assists.
