New Zealand has confirmed that the friendly against England has been cancelled due to Covid complications.
England was set to host New Zealand at Wembley on December 12 but according to the CEO of New Zealand Federation (NZF) Andrew Pragnell, a number of their team members would be subject to quarantine restrictions when they return home.
“It is not an action taken lightly, this is a match we all wanted to play. However, as it stands a significant number of the team would be subject to quarantine or restrictions on their return home.
“This would heavily disrupt their domestic seasons and potentially jeopardise their professional careers. The shifting nature of travel restrictions and commercial flight availability under Covid means that we do not have the certainty we could assemble a squad at Wembley on this day and defaulting on this fixture at the last minute is not an option,” Pragnell said in a statement.
The move will now see England look for a new opponent in the window with the England national team announcing that they will reveal a new replacement soon.
