The reason why Everton defender Yerry Mina was absent from Colombia squad

The Colombia national team confirmed the reason why Yerry Mina was out of action in the team's latest match ahead of the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

Mina and his Everton teammate James Rodriguez were both handed call-ups for Colombia's Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Chile.

Rodriguez enjoyed 90 minutes of action for Colombia while Mina was missing in action after it was discovered that he felt some discomfort in his thigh.

The national team via their Twitter account confirmed that Mina was left out prior to kickoff to avoid triggering his previous injury.

"Yerry Mina during the last training session, presented discomfort in her right thigh," as per the tweet's translation/

"So he was removed from said practice and as a preventive measure he will not be in the game to avoid a relapse in his previous injury."

Mina has scored one goal in four Premier League appearances for Everton so far this season.
