The new season of the Champions League is back less than two months after Bayern defeated PSG in Portugal.
We've run the rule over Tuesday's group games with mini previews and our picks. The highlight of the night sees PSG and Man United renew acquaintances in Paris.
🗓 UCL matchday 1
🏟 Zenit vs Club Brugge
Zenit has won their last five matches at home in the Russian league, scoring 18 goals in that sequence. Club Brugge has found things just as easy in their domestic league in Belgium, scoring an amazing 15 goals in their last five away trips. The visitors have enough to trouble Zenit here but in Russia, the hosts should be too strong.
TIP: Zenit win & over 2.5 goals
🏟 Dynamo Kyiv vs Juventus
Clean sheets on the road have been an issue for Juventus of late. They've conceded at least a goal in each of their last four away games in Serie A and Dynamo Kyiv will be confident they can breach the Juve backline here on matchday 1 of the Champions League groups.
TIP: Both teams to score
🏟 Chelsea vs Sevilla
Chelsea will be kicking themselves after blowing a two-goal lead against Southampton and then conceding deep into stoppage time to draw 3-3 on the weekend in the Premier League. There's no doubt that their attackers will cause problems for even the best defenders in the Champions League this season, but Europa League champions Sevilla will be confident that they can cause plenty of problems themselves at Stamford Bridge on matchday 1.
TIP: Both teams to score
🏟 Rennes vs Krasnodar
Both sides have scored in each of Rennes' last three Ligue 1 outings and the same can be said of four out of Krasnodar's last five matches overall across all competitions. Both of these teams will be outsiders in Group E which also contains Chelsea and Europa League winners Sevilla, so three points here are absolutely vital. The French side should have enough firepower and quality to get it done.
TIP: Rennes win
🏟 Lazio vs Borussia Dortmund
Lazio is on a poor run of results, having lost 3-0 to Sampdoria on the weekend to follow up a 1-1 draw with Inter and a 4-1 defeat to Atalanta. Dropping points against top-quality Serie A sides happens, but their lack of clean sheets is a real worry ahead of the start of Champions League Group F. Dortmund has been at their free-flowing best in recent weeks but had to grind out a 1-0 win at Hoffenheim on the weekend. It's hard to see the hosts keeping a clean sheet against a multi-talented attacking outfit.
TIP: Over 2.5 goals
🏟 Barcelona vs Ferencvaros
Barca went down to a shock 1-0 defeat at Getafe on the weekend in LaLiga. Still, they have an undoubted level of pedigree at home in the Champions League. Visitors Ferencvaros has won four and lost none of their last five matches on the road and they've scored 15 goals in that run. They've only kept one clean sheet in that sequence though and it's difficult to see them picking up anything at the Nou Camp.
TIP: Barca win & over 2.5 goals
🏟 RB Leipzig vs Basaksehir
Last season's surprise semifinalists are ready to go again this season under Julian Nagelsmann. Leipzig has made a great start to the new Bundesliga season too, with three wins and a draw from their first four fixtures. Istanbul Basaksehir's start to the new Turkish season has been poor. They started with three consecutive defeats before steadying the ship somewhat in recent matches with a draw and a win. Leipzig will be too smart and too strong for the visitors.
TIP: Leipzig win
🏟 PSG vs Man United
All five of Man United's Premier League matches this season have featured goals at both ends, with a total of 21 goals representing an average of 5.20 goals per game. It's difficult to see either side keeping a clean sheet here.
TIP: PSG win & over 2.5 goals
