Besiktas midfielder Bernard Mensah temporarily quits Ghana national team

Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas midfielder Bernard Mensah has revealed that he will be taking a sabbatical from international duty, Ghanasoccernet confirmed.

Mensah's timing is somewhat strange as it ties in with him being sidelined from Charles Akonnor's 24-man squad ahead of the 2021 African Cup of Nations doubleheader qualifier against Sudan.

The 26-year-old took to social media to make the announcement to the Black Stars, insisting that he has made the decision to place his focus on club football until further notice.

He said via Twitter: ''I have decided to take a break from the national team until further notice... I want to concentrate on my career for now .. thanks to all Ghanaians for their support.''
