The Football Association of Zambia has confirmed the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier pitting Zambia and Botswana is set to be played behind closed doors.
Zambia is set to host Botswana on Thursday 12th in the third Group H Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier starting from 6:00 PM CAT. FAZ has revealed that the clash will be played behind closed doors. This comes after the Football Association of Zambia had engaged CAF after receiving clearance from the Ministry of Health to trigger the process of bringing fans back into the stadium ahead of the home match but the request has been turned down.
"We regret to inform members of the football family that our request to have fans in the stadium has been rejected. The decision is in line with the CAF guidelines put in place arising from the Covid-19 pandemic that has ravaged the world," FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala said.
"We advise that fans abide by this directive to stay away from the stadium to avoid sanctions from CAF," he added.
However, fans have the opportunity of watching the clash through ZNBC after they were granted rights to air the match.
"We are happy that ZNBC will step in to show the game live which will give fans an opportunity to watch the Chipolopolo," he said.
Zambia are rooted at the bottom of Group H with zero points from their two opening matches having won none. Algeria top the group with six points with Zimbabwe second with four points.
