Portugal narrowly get past the Croats, while the French ease past the Swedes

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias scored a brace for Portugal in their 3-2 win against Croatia, while Chelsea's Olivier Giroud won the game for France against Sweden, despite a late scare.

Here is a brief breakdown of the goals and how things stand in the team's respective groups.

Croatia vs Portugal


Croatia 1-0 (29' Mateo Kovacic)

Kovacic was in the right place at the right time to get to the rebound inside the box and he gleefully rifled the ball into the right side of the goal.

Portugal 1-1 (52' Ruben Dias)

Ruben Dias found himself in a very promising position after getting on the end of a brilliant pass and he fired the ball inside the right post!

Portugal 2-1 (60' Joao Felix)

Joao Felix latched on to a killer pass deep inside the box and he coolly put the ball inside the right post.

Croatia 2-2 (65' Mateo Kovacic)

Mateo Kovacic collected a pass and without hesitation, he fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner.

Portugal 3-2 (90' Ruben Dias)

Ruben Dias scored easily from close in after he was presented with the ball on a golden platter after the goalkeeper spilled it.

How things stand:

Croatia have avoided relegation from Nations League Group A3 despite the loss to Portugal in the final group game.

France vs Sweden


Sweden 1-0 (7' Viktor Claesson)

Claesson picked up the ball inside the box, finding himself in a good position, and fired in a shot which was deflected past Hugo Lloris.

France 1-1 (16' Olivier Giroud)

Marcus Thuram played a pass to the feet of Olivier Giroud, and he shot the ball into the bottom left corner from inside the box.

France 2-1 (36' Benjamin Pavard)

Pavard unleashed a first-time shot from inside the box and he beat the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner.

France 3-1 (59' Olivier Giroud)

Kylian Mbappe handed Giroud the simplest of tasks from close range after the cross evaded the keeper, and he made no mistake with his header into the left side of the goal.

Sweden 3-2 ( 88' Robin Quaison)

Pierre Bengtsson fed Robin Quaison, who tapped the ball into an empty net. 

France 4-2 (90+5' Kingsley Coman)

The winger fired the ball into the back of the net to ensure the win for the French.

How things stand:

Didier Deschamps's France side, who had already qualified for the Final Four, topped Group 3 with 16 points from six games, three points ahead of Portugal, who beat third-placed Croatia 3-2 away.

Sweden finished bottom on three points, behind Croatia on goal difference.
