The Premier League is finally back after the international break and our first taste of action takes us to Newcastle's St James' Park for the visit of Chelsea.
Our betting team believes that two of the league's more entertaining and sometimes unpredictable outfits should produce goals.
🗞 Match preview
🎵 Chelsea have found their groove
The Blues won four consecutive matches in all competitions before the break, scoring at least three goals in each of those outings. Their run of five clean sheets may have come to an end against Sheffield United, but that 4-1 win was about as convincing as any they've chalked up this term. The last four have all ended in victory with at least a three-goal margin.
🤨 Newcastle too unpredictable to back
Newcastle's home form has been hot and cold. They beat an Everton side missing key players while also securing three points over a hapless Burnley team. Alongside those contests, they have been beaten by three-goal margins against Brighton & Man United.
Five of Newcastle's last six league outings have featured goals at both ends. However, no clean sheet in seven league matches is their worst defensive run since conceding in 11 straight games in 2017. Against a rampant Chelsea attack, that sequence looks set to continue.
🔮 Ziyech quickly adjusts
It's early days, but elegant left-footer Hakim Ziyech looks good value for Chelsea from a wide attacking midfield role. The Moroccan scored against Burnley and picked up two assists against Sheffield United, taking his tally to a goal and three assists in four EPL appearances, only two of which were starts.
🔵 Chelsea favourites to end a poor run in the Northeast
All of Chelsea's seven wins across all competitions this season have been by two goals or more - when they are winning they are doing so comfortably. With one win in seven top-flight visits to St James’ Park (D1, L5), Chelsea has struggled on Tyneside. Nobody's scored more goals (four) in meetings between these sides at this venue than manager Frank Lampard.
Perhaps his experience of the fixture can help his side to a rare win at Newcastle. Their form certainly makes them firm favourites.
