Barcelona have been poor so far this season, and a bizarre goal to end the first half gave Atletico Madrid the win at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Barca hadn’t been able to find spaces but had two good chances and couldn’t score, and they paid for a bad mistake by Ter Stegen.
The German goalkeeper, for some very odd reason, left his goal and tried to tackle Yannick Carrasco close to the halfway line, but the Belgian winger nipped the ball past him before converting into an empty net to give Atletico the lead.
So this is the Ter Stegen that’s supposed to be better than Neuer and Courtois? Barca fans never know when to stop talking pic.twitter.com/1r0CHw386Z— Carlo🐍 (@losblancocarlo) November 21, 2020
But Gerard Pique was to blame too because his poor touch allowed Correa to slip Carrasco through on goal, the winger rolled it past the on-rushing Ter Stegan before rolling it into the back of the empty net.
Anything Barcelona tried was stopped by the Atleti defense and in the end, Yannick Carrasco's goals was enough to seal the three points.
Koeman's men are now NINE points adrift of tonight's opponents Atletico and it's not looking good. This was another defensive masterclass from Simeone's Atletico Madrid, but we can't say the same about Barca.
Atlético Madrid XI: Oblak; Trippier, Savic, Giménez, Hermoso; Llorente, Koke, Saúl, Carrasco; João Félix, Correa
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Pjanić, De Jong; Dembélé, Messi, Pedri; Griezmann
