Former Hearts star Aaron Hickey on his move to Serie A side Bologna

Scotland U21 international Aaron Hickey has expressed his delight in playing in Italy but insists playing front of fans will make the world of a difference.

Hickey who completed a move to Serie A side, Bologna, in September has quickly adapted to life in Italy after being in the comfort of playing in Scotland.

The 18-year-old did not feature for international duty this time around due to injury but he is set to be back in action in the Serie A.

Hickey said regarding his move to Bologna: "I was confident I could make an impression here and I'm lucky I have been given the chance.

"The manager, Sinisa Mihajlovic, spent time with me and he's worked hard to try and improve me. Sometimes he will tell me personally how to get better, other times he will leave it to the coaches.

"They are trying to coach me to be better particularly in one-v-one situations.

"I've found it really easy to fit in. Everyone has been great to me and they have helped me settle in.

"It helps that three of my teammates - Andri Baldursson, Andreas Skov Olsen and Mattias Svanberg - all speak English and they have assisted me, although I sometimes have to repeat myself because they can't understand my Scottish accent.

"I have a lot of faith in the squad and I know we will improve a lot. Rodrigo Palacio gives me advice too and that's an invaluable lesson to me.

"My dad lives with me not far from the centre of the city. He has to cook for me now because all the restaurants are closed. In fact, the best thing about Bologna is the lasagna you get here!

"The only thing I am missing are the fans. I played in my first derby in Scotland when I was 16, so I'd love to see the stadiums full here.

"My dream is to score the winning goal in Serie A in front of a full Stadio Renato Dall'Ara."
