FKF Premier League giants Gor Mahia suffered a 2-1 loss to APR FC in their first leg of the CAF Champions League Preliminary round match staged in Kigali on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts took the lead inside ten minutes through Sefu Niyonzima before Kenneth Muguna levelled the scores for the visitors with both teams heading into halftime tied on a 1-1 score.
With a win important for the hosts, they upped the tempo in the second half and were rewarded in the 62nd minute when defender Andrew Juma turned a cross into his own net; a goal that proved to be the difference in the game.
APR could have added a third late on nut keeper Boniface Oluco reacted well to thwart a danger out for a fruitless corner this coming after APR had hit the post through former Gor Mahia man Jacques Tuyisenge.
The result will give Gor the needed boost heading into the second leg on December 5, 2020, with the Kenyan side only needing a goal, as long as their visitors don't score, to progress into the next round.
Before the APR game, Gor Mahia is slated to take on Zoo FC in their 2020/21 FKFPL season opener on December 2; the game set to be staged at Nyayo Stadium.
