Draws with Lazio and Parma, as well as a defeat to city rivals Milan in October had the Nerrazzuri languishing in relative obscurity but they've roared back into life since late November. Their current eight-match winning streak in the Italian top-flight started with a come-from-behind win against Torino back in early December.
Since then, they've dispatched Sassuolo, Bologna, Cagliari, Napoli, Spezia, Hellas Verona and Crotone. There will be bigger tests on the horizon but Antonio Conte's men are well-placed to make a serious title charge.
Belgian hitman Romelu Lukaku's goal against Crotone was his 50th for the club, making him the quickest player to reach a half-century in the club's history, doing so in 70 matches and eclipsing the mark of 77 set by the great Brazilian Ronaldo.
Lukaku's partnership with talented 23-year-old Argentine Lautaro Martinez, who scored a hat-trick against Crotone, is assuring that Inter's attacking unit is becoming one of the most feared in Europe.
The Nerazzurri has a midweek test in the shape a trip to Sampdoria on Wednesday and then matches against Roma, Juventus, Udinese and Benevento round out a busy and possibly decisive January schedule.
One thing is for sure; the rivalry between Inter and rivals AC Milan, who currently lead the race for Scudetto glory, is one worth watching.
